Stevenson Ranch: Independent And Loving It

Years ago, there was a TV show on Showtime about a suburban lady who lived a double life as soccer mom and criminal. The opening credits of the program show a few Stevenson Ranch streets, passed off as the fictional town of Agrestic, while a song written 40 years ago derisively sings:

"Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes made of ticky tacky,
Little boxes on the hillside,
Little boxes all the same."

Well, those 'little boxes' are worth a fortune now, and most people would be thrilled to live in Stevenson Ranch. It is closer to Los Angeles than anywhere in Santa Clarita, has views, serenity and low crime. Stevenson Ranch has very nice-sized homes

Stevenson Ranch real estate is not especially cheap, with condos for sale often starting in the high $300's and homes for sale starting in the low $600's. The largest set of big box stores in Santa Clarita is here, anchored by Walmart, Staples, Ross and Claim Jumper. Friday afternoons are often good times to catch a free concert outside at the courtyard at the top of the hill, near the Starbucks, during warmer months.

Pico Canyon Elementary is located on Pico Canyon Road in the south part of Stevenson Ranch, next to sizeable Pico Canyon Park. Stevenson Ranch Elementary is located in the northern area of town, next to Richard Rioux Memorial Park. Rioux was a noted developer in the area, who created some of the most well-known landmarks in town, such as The Egg Plantation, and the yellow Victorian Shop district.

In 2013, Santa Clarita began moving forward with the Rivendale Open Space Area, located just south of the Lyons Ave. 5 Freeway interchange. The majority of the site remains unchanged, but some great improvements now include:
Parking has been increased by over 300 spaces. Over 2.5 miles of new trails and trail head enhancements added. Amphitheater with 300-400 fixed seats plus grass seating added.

The town has 3 parks, Richard Rioux Park in the northern end, Jake Kuredjian County Park in the southern end and Ed Davis Park at Towsley Canyon further south, for hiking and picnics.

GROWING TO THE WEST

Stevenson Ranch homes are commanding a price higher than anywhere in Santa Clarita, except for the West Ranch area to its north.

The developments south of Pico Canyon Road (Lyons Ave in Newhall) are now being called South Stevenson Ranch.
Southern Oaks is blossoming into a nice, well-hidden quiet gem. Construction continues on Oakridge, featuring 17 luxury homes for sale with pristine mountain views. Those properties are selling for over $1 million a piece. The mountain backdrops these homes have, would make many residents of Santa Clarita a little envious. If the Google Maps picture of Stevenson Ranch Parkway. is this nice, imagine how nice the homes are! Let's go see some!
